Sachin Tendulkar set to get Bharat Ratna

Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar is set to receive Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour of the country.

The formal announcement will be made by Tuesday evening after meeting between Finance Minister Pranab Minister and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Sachin Tendulkar will be the youngest recipient of Bharat Ratna. The demands for Bharat Ratna to India’s iconic batsman got louder after he became the first batsman to score a double hundred in ODIs last year.

Tendulkar is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket. He has almost every record in his book. He is the leading run scorer in Tests and ODIs. He is the only batsman, who scored fifty Test centuries. He has maximum number of ODI hundred (46).

Tendulkar passed 30,000 runs in international cricket on 20 November 2009, and has been honoured with the Padma Vibhushan award, India's second highest civilian award, and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, India's highest sporting honor. Tendulkar became the first sportsperson and the first personality without an aviation background to be awarded the honorary rank of Group Captain by the Indian Air Force. He won the 2010 Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for cricketer of the year at the ICC awards.
