Tiwari missing MI mentor Sachin Tendulkar
BANGALORE: Like many star cricketers, Saurabh Tiwary too is a star in his own way. It was under Sachin Tendulkar’s tutelage, Tiwary caught the world’s attention as he marched into the top eight run scorers of the 2010 Indian Premier League with Mumbai Indians. If that isn’t enough, the Jharkhand cricketer raised some more cynical eyebrows when he w as grabbed for a whopping $1.6m by the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
After all, this flamboyant 21-year-old cricketer is yet to prove his worth, with 26 being his best so far.Tiwary excelled at No 4 for Mumbai Indians but struggled lower down the order for Bangalore. “It’s not like that I have an issue with the batting position.
I have been assigned a different role here, which is quite different from the role I performed last time. As a batsman, you should be ready to bat at any number and
I want to do well irrespective of the position I bat at,” he said.Despite being one of the expensive purchases, Tiwary is not bogged down by his damp squib display.Tiwary, member of the 2008, (under-19) world cup winning squad, said that his approach differs according to situation at hand. “It always depends on the situation. If the run-rate required is 12 per over, the mindset will be quite different from what was there in the Delhi match, where the run-rate required was around six,” he said.
Tiwary said he is missing his mentor Tendulkar in the dressing room but he is not missing the team Mumbai Indians as much, which he was part for the last three IPL seasons.“I don’t miss Mumbai Indians the way I miss Sachin. Every cricketer would love to play with him. I also love to play along with him. But I don’t miss Mumbai Indians as such,” he said.
