Trinidadian cricketer Kieron Pollard said the advantage of playing with Mumbai Indians (MI) is that he gets to play and learn with the Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, whose experience and knowledge has been helpful for the team.
“He has taught us a lot – how to approach a game, how to deal with different scenarios… He has passed on his knowledge to us. There’s so much to learn from him,” said Pollard.
The all-rounder states the love that Mumbai has showered on him, inspire him to do better. He feels it is a great honour to be in the same Wankhede stadium with Tendulkar and the crowd making out time to chant Pollard’s name along with Tendulkar’s.
“How else will you feel when you happen to be in the same stadium as Sachin Tendulkar, a stadium that he calls his home, and the crowd also spares time to chant your name? It’s amazing,” he said.
Pollard doesn’t feel home-sick when in Mumbai during the Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons.
Just like Trinidad, Pollard loves the crowd of Mumbai, the music and the love that Mumbaikars have shown him since the time he has been integral part of Mumbai Indians (MI).
“My wife and kid can find their way around here in Mumbai. They go on their own for shopping,” Pollard was quoted as saying by www.mumbaiindians.com.
Pollard’s passion for cricket built up when he used to accompany his father to Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. Slowly he became an integral part of the West Indies’ Under-19 team for the World Cup in Sri Lanka.
Presently, he is one of the busiest West Indies’ players, playing both One-Day Internationals (ODI) and Twenty20 (T20) around the year, around the world – IPL, Big Bash in Australia.
However, the West Indian is yet to play a Test for his nation. Still, when it comes to club cricket, nothing more matters to him than the time he spends at the Mumbai camp.
“This is my third year with MI. I have made many friends and we are a good bunch of talented guys,” he said.
“It’s just a matter of rallying around each other and doing our basics right. It’s a matter of performance,” he emphasises.
