Learn humility from Master Sachin Tendulkar: Syed Kirmani

Former India wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani has urged Indian cricket’s young generation to learn humility from Sachin Tendulkar. Kirmani believes any sportsperson dreaming of reaching the heights attained by the legend should learn to respect seniors and team members.

“Sachin has smashed every possible record in cricket. But even today, whenever we come across, he always addresses me as ‘Sir.’ He will talk with respect and dignity. This is not seen in today’s younger lot, who at times don’t bother to acknowledge the presence of heroes of yesteryears,” observed Kirmani.

The 1983 World Cup star also praised Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble and VVS Laxman for their modesty.

The former chief selector was also of the opinion that Tendulkar has answered all his critics about his age by playing a marathon match-winning innings in the second Test against Australia. “I feel that there is no connection between age and retirement. If the player has quick reflexes and agility even at 35, then he should continue playing. The senior members in Team India have proved it,” said Kirmani, who played his last international game at the age of 37 in 1986.
