Sachin Tendulkar can counter any strategy: Hafeez

Mohali: Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi has vowed to stop Sachin Tendulkar from scoring his 100th century when they will play the World Cup semi-final against India but opener Mohammad Hafeez feels that the Indian batting legend can counter any strategy.

"Whatever strategy we have to adopt against the opponents is discussed with us by the team coach and captain. We will follow that here as well, but Sachin is a great player," Hafeez said during an interaction with scribes after his team's practice session .

"No matter how much praise you shower on him may prove to be insufficient (in the end). He is a great player," the 30-year-old Pakistan all-rounder added.

Pakistan will play India in a high-voltage semi-final at PCA stadium here on Wednesday.

He said that it was admirable that Tendulkar is still at the top of his game despite a very long career.

"The way he has maintained his career and his skills are really admirable."

On the security arrangements, Hafeez said that his team was satisfied with it.

"There is no fear. We feel completely safe. Our job is to play cricket and we are enjoying our game," he said.

Meanwhile, Pakistani team members had an extended practice session here in late afternoon.

The team reached here from Hotel Taj in Chandigarh in a bus escorted by police men.

They sweated it out for nearly three hours after starting with some warm up and stretching exercises.

The team members looked relaxed and practiced under the watchful eyes of coach Waqar Younis while team manager Intikhab Alam was also present.

Shoaib Akhtar initially sent down a few deliveries from a shortened run-up and was back to his usual long run-up. Umar Gul looked settled and in good rhythm.

Skipper Afridi rolled his arm while Hafeez, Kamran Akmal, Younis Khan were among the batsmen who spent some time at nets.
