Bangalore: Mumbai Indians skipper Sachin Tendulkar has cautioned his players to guard against complacency after they thrashed Royal Challengers Bangalore by nine wickets to continue their winning run in the Indian Premier League.
"We have had a good beginning and we have to maintain the consistency as there is still a long way to go," he said. Tendulkar said that they had discussed about restricting the opposition to 140 and he was happy that they were able to achieve that on Tuesday.
"When we started to bowl, we had hoped the target to be a maximum of 140. Malinga again provided us a great start. We also fielded well and it was another superb team effort. The idea was to bowl as straight as possible and we did just that."
The iconic batsman also praised young Ambati Rayudu for his aggressive half-century.
"It was a brilliant innings from the young man Rayudu. It was a special stuff," the maestro said.
Rival skipper Daniel Vettori said that opener Mayank Agarwal's first-ball dismissal made things difficult for the team.
"It obviously didn't help. We had to almost rebuild from the start and we just couldn't get any momentum going till near the end. But it's always tough facing (Lasith) Malinga for the first time in your life, and when he's bowling so well.
The New Zealander was also critical of his bowlers. "I thought 140 wasn't too bad a score because the wicket was a little bit difficult. I just don't think we bowled well enough tonight."
Asked about the injury (side strain) to Dirk Nannes he said, "We're going to assess him tonight and see if he can travel."
Vettori admitted the players let the fans down but added that it was their first home game.
"It was only the second game of the season. For a lot of us, it was our first game in f.ront of the Bangalore crowd and we feel we let them down, but we've got to pick ourselves up quickly. We've got a couple of quick games in a row and it's important that we play well."
Rayudu felt the wicket improved as the game progressed.
"To be honest, the wicket was slow up front and improved as the game went on. But I'm really happy today. I would like to thank Sachin sir and Robin Singh. Sachin sir just told me to have patience. I am glad we ended up winning the game.
