Bhajji joins chorus demanding Bharat Ratna for Tendulkar

Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh today joined the growing list of former and current players, demanding Bharat Ratna for batting icon Sachin Tendulkar , saying the veteran cricketer deserves the nation's highest civilian honour for his accomplished career spanning over two decades.

"Sachin Tendulkar is a great player. The way he has taken Indian cricket to new heights in the past 21 years of his career, there can't be enough words to describe his contribution. Everyone prays for him when he steps on the field and certainly it is the right time to honour him with this award," Harbhajan told 'PTI-Bhasha'.

Harbhajan also lavished praise on outgoing coach Gary Kirsten, saying the South African turned a team of mere players into champions. "Coaches like him are not easy to find. When he came on board, we were just players but he made us champions.

He is a great friend and a great human being who likes to face every adversity with a smile on his face," he said.

"Each one of us is going to miss him and it would have been nice had he stayed back. He made us the world's number one Test team and One-day champion. We couldn't have asked for more," he added.

Harbhajan also could not stop praising inspirational captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni .

"The Indian cricket team needs a leader like him. It would be difficult to find a better leader than him. He is a great decision-maker," the off-spinner said.
